Russian weapons in the Russia-Ukraine war has destroyed major cities in Ukraine – airstrikes, rocket bombardments, and information warfare has battered the country. Information Warfare: It involves denying, exploiting, corrupting, or destroying an opponent’s information. With the use of information and communication technology (ICT), Russia pursued a competitive advantage over Ukraine. Russia influenced Ukrainians and the international community and promoted its version of events using traditional and social media. They used troll factories, spreaded fake news, and sent bot messages to manipulate people. This social cyber attack created a specific image of Russia in the people’s minds.
Warplanes and Missiles: To hit the targets Russian military has used the following missiles:
- Kinzhal Missiles: Hypersonic missiles used by a MiG-32 warplane of Russia. It can travel at speed five times that of the speed of sound and has a range of 2000 kilometers.
- 9K720 Iskander Ballistic Missile: Short-range missile that can hit targets precisely from a range of 500 kilometers. They led the Russian attack and destroyed many homes, schools, hospitals, and entire cities.
Thermobaric Bombs: They are technologically-superior bombs, filled with a chemical and explosive
mix. On explosion, they cause supersonic blast waves that obliterate anything that comes in the path.
The Russian army used them to destroy fundamental structures in Ukraine.
Next Generation Light Anti-Tank Weapon (NLAW): The portable, shoulder-launched system that an
individual can operate can destroy the modern battle tank with one shot. It weighs 12.5 kgs and is
effective at a range of 20 to 800 meters.
While Ukraine used Stinger anti-aircraft systems, javelin rockets, and tactile drones, Russia’s weapons had more precision and inflicted heavy casualties.
