How D2M Tech Can Change Your Mobile Behaviour?
Direct-to-mobile (D2M) tech allows the multimedia content beamed directly to mobile phones without an active connection. The Department of Telecommunication (DoT) along with the public service broadcaster of India, Prasar Bharati believes that D2M tech can improve the consumption of broadband.
The main ideology behind promoting the D2M technology is used to counter fake news, assist in disaster management, issue an emergency alert, and broadcast live sports on a mobile phone. In this article, we will discuss how it can change your mobile behaviour.
Impact of D2M on Business and Consumer
The technology ensures that consumers can access Videos on Demand (VoD) or Over The Top (OTT) content platforms without exhausting their mobile data at a nominal rate. It will allow rural people with limited or no network access to watch the video and other multimedia content. Additionally, businesses can decongest the mobile spectrum by offloading video traffic. The free-up bandwidth can increases data speed, reduces call drops, and improves the usage of the mobile spectrum.
D2M tech is based on the convergence of broadcast and broadband, similar to FM radio on the mobile phone. It is particularly helpful in the broadcasting of citizen-centric information. The biggest challenge is to launch the tech on a wide scale involving infrastructural and regulatory changes. Also, bringing all the mobile operators on board can be difficult but the government is keen on the D2M tech.
The future
Currently, the band is used across the country for TV transmitters by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. And DoT has set up a committee to study the feasibility of D2M tech and envisaged Band 526-582 MHz for working in coordination with mobile and broadcast services
