Scientists are developing a new computer that can harness the mysterious powers of quantum mechanisms and perform tasks in minutes. In 2019, Google unveiled a pilot quantum computer, and two years later, China did the same. It will work at its potential with the help of breakthrough technology – Quantum Internet. It is a computer network sending quantum information between distant computers.
A significant step towards its future is taken by the team of physicists at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. They send data across three different physical locations using quantum data teleportation technology. Earlier, it was possible to send data to only two locations. Scientists now can stretch the network to include many sites. As per a research paper, quantum teleportation can transfer information without actually moving the physical matter that has the information. It is based on a phenomenon that was once said impossible by Albert Einstein.
How it will impact us?
The technology can change how the data is transferred, and no one can intercept it. It is based on the field of study, quantum mechanics, which involves subatomic behaviour. Tracy Eleanor, a researcher at the University of Innsbruck, said that it does not work like the way Google works. Google knows what you are running on your servers. She further added, “This technology will solve your problem without knowing the actual problem.”
The future quantum internet could provide a new kind of unbreakable encryption through quantum teleportation. Researchers believe it can create powerful advancements in artificial intelligence and protect vital computers for national security. Different academic labs, startups, governments, and tech giants spend billions of dollars to explore the technology.
