Optimus – Tesla’s human-sized robot to be unveiled in September

We have all been listening and waiting patiently for robots who could make our lives easier. From difficult plumbing tasks to shopping grocery – we’ve been wishing for robots to become our reality. Seems like with Elon Musk around, our wishes would be fulfilled sooner than we expected. Musk has announced the unveiling of Optimus – a human-sized robot in September 2022! Here’s all you need to know about Optimus and Musk’s announcement.

Who is Optimus and What Can it Do?
Elon Musk, the Chief Executive Officer of Tesla, may unveil a human-sized consumer robot as early as September 2022, which is why he also postponed Tesla’s AI Day to September 30. The robot, dubbed Optimus or Optimus Subprime, was introduced on Tesla’s inaugural AI Day in August 2021.
“Tesla AI Day pushed to Sept 30, as we may have an Optimus prototype working by then,” Musk announced on Twitter. The EV maker is utilizing its expertise in batteries and power electronics that power electric vehicles to build this robot, so it can behave like a human. While the timeline is ambitious, Musk has, at several events, said the project is a priority
The robot would be friendly and eliminate dangerous, repetitive, and tedious tasks. It would have the ability to carry at least 45 LBS and deadlift over 150 LBS. Musk reckons the 5’8” sized robot can perform even the most mundane tasks like grocery shopping.
Optimus’s Future
Over time, the company intends to improve the robot and make it capable of performing an even wide range of functions, making it suitable for commercial and consumer applications. Down the line, it also plans to further the technology to the level of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) so that the robot can find a solution even if faced with an unfamiliar task. Musk even has plans to decentralize the control of these robots to avoid a Terminator-like scenario.
AGI technology is another level of artificial intelligence – it can perform any task that a human can. While scientists define AGI in terms of achieving specific goals, psychologists define it in terms of survival and adaptability.
Among its other ambitious projects is a supercomputer called Dojo. The supercomputer would train its neural nets, the network that allows computer programs to recognize patterns to help them solve problems.
