Hyundai Home- A gamechanger for Electric Vehicle Industry
This November, Hyundai announced a novel idea for its customers to charge at home-Hyundai Home to attract a new group of E.V. buyers. It includes solar panels, energy storage, and E.V. charging. Hyundai has partnered with Electrum to assist customers in 16 U.S. states in locating the best power installers and systems for their E.V. charging requirements.
Making E.V. charging more accessible
As the United States focuses on reducing carbon emissions, more Americans will consider electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and hybrids when purchasing their next vehicle. However, according to the United States Census Bureau, rentals account for the majority of housing in America, and the majority of them are old, so landlords will need to be willing to spend money upgrading panels and providing charging access in multifamily garages if they want to provide tenants with at-home charging.
An electrical panel upgrade for a single home typically costs between $1,300 and $3,000 on average. Many people will only be able to afford or have access to home charging when the high cost of battery-electric, hybrid, and plug-in electric vehicles is factored in, particularly those who live in multifamily buildings without such access. Hyundai is taking it into consideration, but there are no firm plans for the future.
With Hyundai Home, the company is attempting to democratise the entire ecosystem
surrounding electric vehicles, not just E.V. charging and adoption. Customers must therefore
find it easier to go solar, purchase energy storage, and eventually combine these systems to
lower their energy costs.
